What does SIL mean in MEDICAL

An SIL is a list of individuals whose health is so severely compromised that they require special consideration from medical providers and government agencies to receive appropriate care. It stands for Seriously Ill List

Any individual who has a serious health condition or disability can join an SIL. Typically physicians or social workers make the determination as to whether someone qualifies for inclusion in this list

An individual must complete an application for inclusion on the Serious Ill List. The application must be signed by a physician certified in their field of specialty attesting to the veracity of the statement made concerning their condition

Those on the Seriously Ill List may be eligible for priority access to certain services such as hospital admission, medical evaluations and treatments, emergency medical transportation, housing assistance, counselling services and more

Each case is evaluated differently based upon its importance and relevance. Exemptions may apply if there are extraordinary circumstances surrounding the applicant's request or situation. Exceptions may also be given for specific disabilities or conditions based upon their severity
