What does AMP mean in MILITARY

Army Materiel Plan (AMP) is a U.S. military plan developed to provide the Army with the capabilities needed to fulfill its mission, manage its resources properly, and ensure readiness for future contingencies.

The plan divides materiel planning into five areas: modernization/acquisition/sustainment/testing and evaluation, and investment analysis and decisions.

This comprehensive approach to materiel management provides a better understanding of the operational environment and enables commanders to plan intelligently for the future.

The government revises AMP annually in order to reflect changes in threats or funding levels as well as maintain an appropriate level of flexibility when responding quickly to new situations that arise during conflicts overseas or other emergency situations at home.

The purpose of AMP is to enable commanders within each branch of service - including combat forces such as infantry units - access specific parts, equipment, facilities, supplies or personnel more quickly during times of urgency or conflict than would otherwise be possible without it in place.
