What does AMAA mean in NAVY

AMAA stands for Aviation Structural Mechanic Airman Apprentice.

As an Aviation Structural Mechanic Airman Apprentice, duties involve sustaining safety, performance, and weapons systems of naval aircraft. These duties include conducting inspections, service and maintenance operations on airframes, engines, equipment and component parts; completing repairs; fabricating and assembling structural components; installing hardware; testing systems to ensure proper operation; operating shop tools; operating ground support equipment; recording service data in logbooks or other records; and following established safety practices when handling hazardous materials used in maintenance operations.

To become an Aviation Structural Mechanic Airman Apprentice (AMAA), you must first enlist in the U.S. Navy's aviation maintenance field as a Seaman Recruit or higher rating/rank. After successfully completing basic training, you will attend the Aviation Structural Mechanic "A" School Course at Naval Air Station Pensacola or Naval Air Technical Training Center Meridian for 4-6 weeks of instruction. Upon successful completion of "A" School you'll receive an additional 8-12 weeks of specialized training before receiving your wings as a Naval Aviator or AM rating designator (EManeuvering).
