What does AIGS mean in PHOTOGRAPHY & IMAGING

AIGS stands for Advanced Imaging for Glaucoma Study. It is a multi-center research study that aims to investigate the role of imaging in diagnosing and monitoring glaucoma.

AIGS uses advanced imaging technology such as optical coherence tomography (OCT), scanning laser polarimetry (SLP), and fundus photographs, as well as innovative analysis techniques to answer important questions about diagnosis and management of glaucoma.

Participants of the AIGS study must have open angle glaucoma, be 18 years or older, have reliable visual fields on at least one eye, and meet specific criteria related to imaging. People who have been diagnosed with pseudoexfoliation syndrome may also participate depending on certain criteria.

During this study participants will be asked to provide demographic information such as age, gender, race/ethnicity; medical history including type of glaucoma; medications used to treat their disease; ocular measurements; pupil dilation; visual field tests; OPTISâ„¢ images; OCT scans of the optic nerve head; number of treatments with laser or incisional surgery used for treatment or observation purposes related to glaucoma.

Participation in this study may provide potential benefits to individuals by providing access to a full dilated exam including optical coherence tomography (OCT), which is not available through routine care. Additionally individual results may contribute to advancing knowledge about managing glaucoma through better understanding of risk factors associated with progression and response to treatment options which might lead to more individualized approaches when treating or recommending treatments for glaucoma patients.
